Robert F. Riley, age 54, a lifelong Janesville resident, passed away early Wednesday morning, June 28, 2017 at Agrace Center for Hospice & Palliative Care in Janesville. Rob was born January 8, 1963 in Janesville, the son of the late Paul O. & Norella D. (Coulter) Riley. He was a graduate of Parker High School, Class of 1981. He then attended Blackhawk Technical College, receiving his Associate’s Degree. On May 10, 1986, he married the love of his life, Mary Teresa Gunn, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church. Together they had 3 children, Angela, John, and Ryan. Rob had worked for Van Galder Bus Co., the Riteway Bus Co. in Milton, and later as the Transportation Director for the Stoughton School District for the past 17 years until his passing. Rob was a certified referee and umpire for the WIAA, and officiated many games through the years for wrestling, softball, baseball, volleyball, and basketball. He enjoyed supervising the students during sporting events in Stoughton for many years. He enjoyed being a foster parent for several young people in need, and his family and extended family meant everything to him. He was a very avid Chicago Cub, Green Bay Packer, and Wisconsin Badger fan. Rob also enjoyed the quiet times when he could catch up on his reading, which he loved!
He is survived by his 2 sons, John Riley, and Ryan (Emily Stocks) Riley, both of Janesville; his beloved granddaughter, Shay Angela Riley; his brothers and sister, Rick (Marthea) Riley, of Warren, IL, Randy (Cheryl) Riley, of Roanoke, IN, Ron (Isabella) Riley, and Renee (Dan) Hamilton, both of Janesville; his former wife and mother of his children, Teresa Gunn, of Janesville; nieces, nephews, and many friends. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Angela Margaret Riley, on December 27, 2015.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 P.M. on Saturday, July 1, 2017 at the WHITCOMB-LYNCH FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES. Burial will follow in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Friends may call on Saturday from 9:00 A.M. until 12:00P.M. at the FUNERAL HOME.
