Geraldine A. “Geri” Hilt, age 83, a resident of Janesville, passed away Sunday evening, July 23, 2017 at the Edgerton Care Center, Edgerton. Geri was born August 10, 1933 in Janesville, the daughter of the late Irving & Myrtle (Clough) Cole. She attended school in Janesville, and was a graduate of Janesville High School. On November 8, 1952 she married Eugene Hilt, Jr. in Janesville. She had worked for Borg-Amphenol Co., had worked for the Janesville Gazette, and she had owned and operated Geri & Gene’s Antiques here in Janesville, and also with a location in Rockford. Geri enjoyed spending her winters in Florida with Gene. She loved antiquing, and especially loved finding something unique, but reasonable. Her family was at the center of her life, but spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren was the best!
She is survived by her husband, Gene; her 4 children, Butch (Deb) Hilt, of Ft. Wayne, IN, Nancy (Chuck) O’Leary, Dave (Vicki) Hilt, and Jeff (Michelle) Hilt, all of Janesville; her 12 beloved grandchildren, Aaron (Heather) Hilt, Todd (Alvin Dela Cruz) Hilt, Brian (Trisha) O’Leary, Amy (Chris) Hebble, Andy (Ashley) O’Leary, Stacy (Mike) Jordan, Kelli (Tim) Martin, Eric Hilt, Matt Hilt, Alex Hilt, Sunshyne Gaddy, and Payton Kahl; her 11 dear great-grandchildren, Kaylie, Kaleb, Tyler, Isaac, Alivia, Lyla, Rylee, Ashlyn, Bryce, Maycee, and Lucas; her brother-in-law, Emanuel (Gertrude) Hilt, of Janesville; her 2 sisters-in-law, Agnes Chizek, of Beloit, WI, and Lois Allen, of Janesville; and by many nieces, nephews, and friends. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her mother-in-law and father-in-law, her great-granddaughter, Summer Hilt, her sister, Shirley Jordan, her brother, Buck Cole, and her 2 brothers-in-law, Bob Jordan and Bill Chizek.
Memorial services will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Friday, July 28, 2017, at the WHITCOMB-LYNCH FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES. Private interment will take place at a later date. Memorial visitation will take place from 11:00 A.M. until 1:00 P.M. on Friday at the FUNERAL HOME.
Geri’s family would like to express their sincerest thanks and appreciation to the wonderful staff of the Edgerton Care Center, and to the staff of Heartland Hospice, for the loving care and concern shown to Geri during her illness!
