Wayne R. Pepper, age 81, a longtime Janesville area resident, passed away Tuesday, December 12, 2017 at the Agrace Center for Hospice & Palliative Care in Janesville. He was born February 12, 1936 in Wheaton, IL, the son of the late George E. & Irma (Rowe) Pepper. Wayne worked for many years as a welder, and had worked for General Motors, Schlueter Co., and with Northland Equipment Co. until his retirement. He also operated his own shop for Small Engine Repair. On June 16, 1973 he married the former Barbara J. Graves at Cargill United Methodist Church in Janesville.
He was a part of a Fire Fighting Crew in his earlier years in South Dakota near the Black Hills. He served in the National Guard. Wayne enjoyed model railroads and attending shows and exhibits.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara; his 2 sons, David (Nancy) Pepper, and DuWayne (Cheryl) Pepper, both of Janesville; his 2 step-children, David M. (Anna) Hanson, of Spanish Fork, UT, and Carole (Mitchell) Rand, of Guilford, CT; his brother, George A. "Red" (Loreeta) Pepper; his 8 grandchildren, Brandon Pepper, Kyle Jay, Keith Pepper, JaNay Pepper, Ariel (Preston) Higgs, Makayla Hanson, Amy Rand, and Emma Rand; his great-granddaughter, Hannah Higgs; and by nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his 3 sisters, Betty Kapfer, Jane Kissling, and Shirley Murphy. Wayne was also preceded in death by his favorite lap-cat, Squeaky, who would sit on Wayne’s lap every evening while he played solitaire.
At Wayne's request, services will be held at a later date. Interment will take place in Bethel Cemetery, Town of Center.
