Obituary for Ronald Lundberg

Ronald Lundberg
Ronald James Lundberg, age 77, a longtime resident of Janesville, passed away Monday, December 25, 2017 at SSM/St. Mary’s Hospital in Madison. Ron was born July 27, 1940 in Beresford, SD, the son of the late Oscar & Elna (Larson) Lundberg.
On March 3, 1962 he married the former Nancy Marie Hotchkiss. She preceded him in death on June 10, 2016. Together they raised two children Greg and Rebecca. The family followed Ron's love of travel by taking trips whenever and wherever possible – there were always maps to be studied or route details to share with whoever would listen. Ron and Nancy were accomplished travelers having visited all 48 contiguous states. Trips to Branson, Missouri and Texas were among their favorites.
Ron worked for over 47 years at General Motors Corp. retiring from there in 2006. He also enjoyed farming with Al & Judy Hubbell on their beef farm in Fulton Twsp. Ron was a member of St. Patrick's Roman Catholic Church and the U.A.W. Local #95.
Ron was an avid gardener and took special pride in sharing his crops of hot peppers! There was never a pepper that was too hot for Ron or a food that couldn’t use a little pepper. He enjoyed working and solving puzzles of all kinds, especially cryptograms, Sudoku’s and word jumbles. And made sure he taught his children the Wisconsin basics; cribbage, euchre and dirty clubs. Ron was an avid sports fan, following the Packers, Brewers and NASCAR Races. While his heart remained an Iowa Hawkeyes fan, he grew to enjoy the Wisconsin Badgers as well. In the years following retirement, Ron spent many an hour looking after his “grand-dogger” Snickers whether it was playing ball, sharing his lunch or taking her for a ride.
He is survived by his 2 children, Gregory (Emily) Lundberg, of Green Bay, WI, and Rebecca Lundberg of Janesville; his 3 beloved grandchildren, Peter, Olivia, and Genevieve Lundberg; his 2 sisters, Shirley Brill, and Barbara (Harold) Hofman; his brother, Gary (Diane) Lundberg; his brother-in-law Robert (Dona) Richards; his sister-in-law, Cynthia (Marv) Kopke, nieces, nephews, friends and his furry companion Snickers. Besides his wife and parents, Ron was preceded in death by his brother, Douglas Lundberg.
Funeral services with a Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, January 16, 2018 at ST. PATRICK’S ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH, 315 Cherry St., with Fr. Timothy Renz presiding. Visitation will be held from 4:00 P.M. until 6:00 P.M. on Monday, January 15, 2018, at the WHITCOMB-LYNCH FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, and again on Tuesday from 10:00 AM until the time of the service at the CHURCH. Private interment will take place at a later date in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
