Obituary for John Jess

John C. Jess, age 85, a longtime Beloit resident and currently of Janesville, passed away early Monday, January 22, 2018 at Huntington Place Memory Care in Janesville. John was born December 1, 1932 in Sacramento, CA. He was the son of the late Richard & Mary (Sudduth) Jess. John attended schools in Illinois, and was a graduate of Jacksonville, IL High School, Class of 1951.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, and served his country until his Honorable Discharge.
He was married to the former Martha Jeanne Gardner on June 4, 1957 in Texas. He later attended Iowa State University, receiving his Bachelor of Science in Animal Science. John later received his M.S. in Education from the Wisconsin State University-Whitewater (UW-Whitewater).
He taught science for almost 28 years in the middle school in the Beloit Turner School District. John also enjoyed many years of coaching the young people of the district in various sports. After his teaching career, John still enjoyed working with the students as a school bus driver for the district.
John was an accomplished woodworker, and he loved nothing more than working on and finishing a project so he could give it to a family member or friend. He loved NASCAR racing and made several trips to tracks around the country. He loved traveling and had visited many countries around the world. After retirement, he and Martha lived on a lake near Minong, WI which provided John the time to enjoy fishing. His greatest love was for his family, and especially his grandchildren! He loved nothing more than spending time with them, and would take them on adventures that were unique for each one!
He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Martha; his 4 children, Richard B. (Lynnae) Jess, of Haslett, MI, Thomas G. (Connie) Jess, of Simpsonville, SC, Alice M.
