Obituary for Catherine G Negus

Catherine G Negus
Catherine “Cathy” Gertrude Negus, age 52, of Janesville, died unexpectedly on Tuesday, December 27, 2016 at Mercy Hospital & Trauma Center from an apparent aneurysm. She was born in Janesville on July 4, 1964, the daughter of Paul Edward and Helen Grace (Barry) Campion. Cathy attended St. Mary’s Catholic Grade School and graduated from Milton High School in 1982. She continued her education at UW Whitewater and received a degree in accounting from Chippewa Valley Technical College. On April 16, 1988, she married Richard “Rick” J. Negus at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Janesville and together they had three children. Cathy worked at several financial institutions where she worked in mortgage lending. It was a job she enjoyed, because she could see the excitement and joy in her client’s face, when she helped them arrange for the purchase of their own dream home.
After they were married, Cathy and her husband lived in Menomonie, WI before moving back to the Janesville area in 1997, where they built the home of their dreams, on the Campion family farm. She truly loved the farm and always wanted to return to it. She cherished the moments in the fields and woods walking with her family and dogs. Cathy’s joy in life was being a great mother to her children. She was always very supportive of their school, sports, and other activities. She was their biggest cheerleader! Cathy also looked forward to having a good time with her family and friends, telling stories and sipping her favorite drink, a SC old fashioned. She enjoyed boating, especially on Lake Geneva, spending time in the sunshine, traveling with her sisters, and times on the beach. Her strong spirited personality, along with being a wonderful wife, mother, daughter, sister, and dear friend to many will be missed by all who knew her.
She is survived by her husband: Rick; her children who she adored and was very proud of: Nicole, Brooke, and Jake; her mother and mother-in-law: Helen Campion of Janesville and Melda Negus of Janesville; brothers and sisters, and their spouses: William and Jane Campion of Green Bay, WI, Paul and Liz Campion of Sheboygan, WI, Teresa and Don Kanable of McFarland, WI, Tom and Diane Campion of Western Springs, IL, Dennis and Lisa Campion of Janesville, and Maureen and Jim Merkatoris of De Pere, WI; brothers and sisters-in-law: Mike and Connie Negus of Milton, Debra and Mark Mortimer of Janesville, and Mark and Chene Negus of Janesville. Preceding her in death were her father: Paul Edward Campion, and father-in-law: Clarence Wesley Negus.
Memorials would be greatly appreciated if they were made in Cathy’s name to The Apostolate to the Handicapped, 702 S. High Point Road, Suite 225, Madison, WI 53719; a ministry of the Catholic Diocese of Madison serving the disabled, that her uncle, Msgr. Thomas Campion started in 1967.
Following Cathy’s wish a Private Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Mary Catholic Church, Janesville with burial to follow at Mount Olivet Cemetery.
