Print
Eugene B. “Gene” Pakes, age 87, a longtime Janesville resident, passed away Sunday morning, August 5, 2018 at Huntington Place Memory Care. Gene was born, along with his twin brother, Walter, on January 28, 1931 in Raeville, NE, the son of the late Joseph J. & Anna R. (Moser) Pakes. He graduated from Random Lake, WI High School with the Class of 1949. Gene was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving his country honorably during the Korean Conflict. On September 5, 1953 he married the former Mary S. Grant at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Janesville. She preceded him in death on December 27, 2011. Gene worked as a Foreman in the Materials Dept. at General Motors Corp. for many years until his retirement in 1983. After his retirement, he worked for Bill and Joyce Wartmann in Edgerton for over 20 years. He was a longtime member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church and was also a member of the V.F.W. Kienow-Hilt Post 1621. He always enjoyed lending a helping hand at his son’s business, Pakes' Engine & Machine. Gene loved to travel, enjoying many trips over the years with his family and friends, as well as attending many of his Army reunions.
Gene is survived by his 2 children, Bob (Karen) Pakes, of Edgerton, and Diane (Jim) Weins, of Milton; his 5 grandchildren, Jennifer (Chris) Krebsbach, Bobby (Nati) Pakes, Joey (Rachel) Pakes, Brian (fiancée, Raegen Elliott) Weins, and Eric Weins; his 4 beloved great-grandchildren, Sophie, Nolan, and Emmett Krebsbach, and Violet Pakes; his 3 brothers, Jim (Rosie) Pakes, his twin Walt (Rosy) Pakes, and Norman (Val) Pakes; and by many nieces, nephews, and friends. Besides his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his in-laws, Martin and Victoria Grant.
Funeral services with a Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:30 A.M. on Friday, August 10, 2018 at ST. PATRICK’S CATHOLIC CHURCH, 315 Cherry St., with Fr. James Kuhn officiating. Burial with full military rites accorded by the V.F.W. Kienow-Hilt Post 1621 will follow in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10:00 until 11:30 A.M. on Friday at the CHURCH.
Memorials in his name would be appreciated to St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, 315 Cherry St., Janesville, WI 53548, or to Agrace Hospice, 2901 N. Wright Rd., Janesville, WI 53546, or at www.agrace.org
