Obituary for Marjorie Jeanne "Jeanne" Scherdell

Marjorie Jeanne "Jeanne"  Scherdell
Marjorie Jeanne Scherdell, age 84, a longtime Janesville resident, passed away Tuesday evening, August 7, 2018, at Alden Meadow Park Nursing Home in Clinton. She was born January 7, 1934 in Janesville, the daughter of the late Elmer & Mildred (Proteau) Hathorn. On June 20, 1953 she was married to Robert G. Scherdell at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Janesville. Bob preceded her in death on July 22, 1996. Jeanne was a very active longtime member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church and had been a teacher in their Religious Education Dept. for over 20 years. She also gave of her time assisting with many of the funeral dinners at the church for many years. She loved playing all types of games, including cards, board games, and computer video games. Jeanne enjoyed working all types of puzzles. She loved camping with her family and friends. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family, and especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by her 7 children, Richard (Beth) Scherdell, of Clinton, Kevin Scherdell, Corrine (Henry) Chacon, both of Janesville, Laurie (Fred) Jones, of Troy, IL, Susan Scherdell, of Janesville, Emily Rubeck, of Beloit, and Eric (Wendy) Scherdell, of Janesville; her 7 grandchildren, Daniel (Becky) Hansen, Derrick Scherdell, Traci Scherdell, Sandra Jones, Heather (Zech) Bogle, Sherri Ball, and Joseph Ball; her 5 great-grandchildren, Justin, Natalie, Emma, Lydia, and Bryanna; and by numerous adoptive and biological brothers and sisters, nieces, nephews, and friends. Besides her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Roger and Richard Hathorn.
Funeral services with a Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12:00 P.M. on Tuesday, August 14, 2018 at ST. PATRICK’S CATHOLIC CHURCH, with Fr. Tom Marr officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10:30 A.M. until 12:00 P.M. on Tuesday at the CHURCH.
