Marjorie Ann Gaulke, age 101, formerly of Lake Ripley, WI died on Tuesday, March 5, 2019 at Home Again Assisted Living in Cambridge, WI. She was born in Janesville, WI on September 3, 1917, the daughter of the late Frank and Helena (Zehren) Schmitt. On March 27, 1943, in Janesville, WI, she married Herman R. Gaulke and he predeceased her on September 12, 1993. When Marjorie lived in Janesville, she was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church and after moving to Lake Ripley in 1983, she became active at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church. Over the years, she enjoyed golfing, playing bridge and cross word puzzles. Marjorie was a very kind, gentle, and loving woman, who always had the best interest of her children at heart. She had a wonderful personality and a sense of humor that will be missed by all who knew her.
She is survived by her son: James Gaulke of Tulsa, OK; her two grandchildren: Alex Amato and Christa (Gene) Proffitt; her friends and neighbors for many years: Debbie and Steve Carlson, Bill and Betty Reay, David and Donna Barnes, Monica Ruth Dolan, and Shirley Teske. In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by her children: Mary Ann Amato and John Gaulke; and her brother: Duane Schmidt.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, March 14, 2019 at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, 302 Merchants Ave., Fort Atkinson, WI with Fr. Andrew Hanyzewski officiating. Visitation will be on Thursday from 9:00 AM until the time of the service at the church. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery. Memorials would be greatly appreciated if they were made in Marjorie’s name to St. Peter’s Episcopal Church.

Jim, my condolences on the passing of your mother. I was the youngest and last "Kutz kid" to mow Marge's lawn out at Lake Ripley. My brother John started to mow her lawn sometime back around 1996, my sister Emily did it for a while in the 2000's, and then I mowed it from 2006-2014. She helped get me through college! I even got my girlfriend at the time (wife now), Corinne, to help rake and pull out the dock each change of season. I always enjoyed my time at Marge's. She was such a wonderful lady who lived a full life. She would speak of you often, and tell me over-and-over your career story. :) She will be greatly missed, and I count it a privilege to have known her. Psalm 23.

P.S. If you are ever in the Atlanta area, let me know. That is where I live now.

Marge was like a great-grandmother to our 3 boys, currently ages 16, 15 and 13. My parents, Bill and Betty, have lived next door to Marge for the past 20 years. We shared many meals, celebrations and summers on the lake with Marge and often would find the boys over at Marge's house chatting, playing her organ and visiting Charlie the cat. As young as 5, our oldest would all of a sudden disappear and we knew that he had gone to see Marge! They, from their very young age, knew her kindness, her gentleness and her genuine care and interest in them. She was a remarkable, independent lady with a fabulous sense of humor and we always looked forward to celebrating her birthday at the start of every school year. She will be greatly missed.
